2023-2024 LWVSF annual financial report

October 18, 2024

Hello League member,

Happy Fall! Our volunteers and members have been busy preparing  for the November 5th election with many informative programs, candidate forums, and hybrid events ahead of us. This past year we focused on the March presidential primary and sent three board members to the LWV national convention in Washington, D.C.

The June national convention emphasized the youth vote and LWVUS unveiled a first-time partnership with the Girl Scouts of America. Don't miss the Convention recap from Ruth Grace Wong, LWVSF Board Secretary.

Through our advocacy work, we continue our partnership with many organizations. This year we worked with the League of Women Voters of California and the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights to join an amicus curiae brief in the case of Grants Pass v. Oregon. Unfortunately, this case did not resolve as we had wished, but we will continue to advocate for a housing-first solution to homelessness.

Working with our partners like California Common Cause, SF Rising, and the Asian Law Caucus, redistricting reforms continue to be an important issue and we were quoted in both Mission Local and the San Francisco Examiner on ways to improve San Francisco redistricting process. We are hopeful that we will be able to advocate for a redistricting charter amendment during a future local election to ensure unbiased and fair elections in our city.

I’m pleased to submit LWVSF's 2023–2024 year-end financial report. The League of Women Voters of San Francisco continues to be financially strong thanks to our annual donations and continuing community support that allow us to fulfill our mission to encourage active participation in government. We are also fortunate to receive grants from the San Francisco Department of Elections that allows for us to translate our Pros & Cons Guide into many languages, and further educate on ranked choice voting.

We have invested some of our savings into a certificate of deposit so that we could accrue some interest from our savings. This has yielded a good amount of interest and we will continue to make these financial investments in the future as our budget allows. The Budget Committee is also working with the board of directors and other committees to make more accurate projections for the year, so we can better track expected spending for the upcoming fiscal year.

We continue to educate our members through our “Spotlight On” event series, and take action on redistricting and community safety. None of this would have been possible without your continued support and the strength of all our members and volunteers.

During the March 2024 presidential primary, we provided nonpartisan voter resources, engaged our members, and built upon our partnerships, while advocating for our areas of focus. Your continued support makes our work possible.

Our June 1 annual meeting saw members approve our newest board member, Colleen Chan, and we thanked Sarah Shectman for her service to the Board.

We welcome volunteers for our upcoming events, so if you are interested, please email our volunteer coordinator.

Thank you for your ongoing support of the League of Women Voters of San Francisco. I look forward to continuing our work together.

In unity,

Alison Goh
President
League of Women Voters of San Francisco
