Information Collection

We collect information from you when you subscribe to our newsletter or fill out a form.

Information Use

The League of Women Voters of San Francisco is the sole owner of the information collected on this site. We maintain the privacy of our supporters through various technical means of protection. We offer web users the option of keeping their names anonymous and provide easy ways for donors to state their mailing preferences. We never share, rent or sell a donor’s email or mailing address.

Though we make every effort to preserve user privacy, we may need to disclose personal information when required by law wherein we have a good-faith belief that such action is necessary to comply with an appropriate law enforcement investigation, current judicial proceeding, a court order or legal process served on our Web site.

In order to make a donation on this Web site, a user must first complete a donation form, on which the user must provide contact information (like name and address) and financial information (like credit card number and expiration date). This information is used for billing purposes and to provide donations receipts. If we have trouble processing a donation, this contact information can be used to get in touch with the user. This information will be used to send a tax receipt if a donation is made. The user will be added to the League of Women Voter’s mailing list, unless previously indicated otherwise.

We use a credit card processing company to bill for donations. The credit card company does not retain, share, store or use personal information for any secondary purposes. Please send us an email if you have questions about the donation process.

E-Mailing List

Users who join the League of Women Voters of San Francisco’s mailing list will receive periodic mailings throughout the year. We use a reputable third party organization for management of our email news. If supporters wish to have their name excluded from this sharing program they may indicate their preference by un-subscribing when they receive a newsletter or by sending us an email.

Social Network Sites

The League of Women Voters of San Francisco manages Facebook and Twitter pages with links to these external sites from all of the pages on the League’s website. We do not embed any Facebook or Twitter information into the League’s web pages. If you become a member of the League’s Facebook page, your information will be managed on Facebook under the privacy rules of conduct for that company. We post notices about events and local political activities on the Facebook page.

This Web site takes every precaution to protect our users’ information. When you submit sensitive information via the Web site, your information is protected both online and off-line. When our donation form asks users to enter sensitive information (such as credit card numbers), that information is encrypted and is protected with the best encryption software in the industry — SSL.

While on a secure page, such as our order form, the lock icon on the bottom of Web browsers such as Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer will become locked. While we use SSL encryption to protect sensitive information online, we also do everything in our power to protect user-information off-line. All of our supporters’ information, not just the sensitive information mentioned above, is restricted in our offices. Finally, the servers that we store personally identifiable information on are kept in a secure environment.

If you have questions about the security at our Web site, you can send us an email.

Correction/Updating Personal Information

If your contact information changes, or if you would like to be removed from our mailing list, the League of Women Voter’s of San Francisco will correct, update or remove that information. To make such a change, please email us.

If we decide to change our privacy policy in a material way, for example, use personally identifiable information in a manner different from that stated at the time it was collected, we will post those changes prominently on our web site for 30 days prior to taking effect. Users will always have a choice as to whether or not we use their information in this different manner.
