Community safety in San Francisco

We all should be able to feel we belong in the city we call home. Let's create a more vibrant, inclusive community where neighbors look out for one another and every person is valued.

Effective and compassionate solutions

We promote a model of community safety that moves away from punishment and toward accountability, from suspicion toward relationships, and from isolation toward participation. LWVSF's goals are to:

  • Advocate for permanent solutions to community safety issues.
  • Educate people about community safety issues and how to get involved.
  • Communicate with people so they can raise their voice about the issues.
  • Collaborate to increase government transparency and accountability.

We take action on these issues

Policing practices

All San Franciscans should be able to understand and speak up about policing decisions, policies, programs, and their impact on our lives and communities.

Housing and homelessness

Shelter and stability go hand in hand. We emphasize the empowerment of people who are unhoused, and oppose criminalizing homelessness. We'll share more about this issue soon.

Transit equity

Transit equity

People deserve fair, equal access to safe, reliable transportation so they can fully participate in economic, educational, and social opportunities. We're shaping our approach — stay tuned.

Trainings to observe public meetings

Attending government meetings doesn't have to be confusing. Once a month, we hold a training so you can get the most out of observing a meeting on your own or with LWVSF.
