LOCAL STUDY - PRIVATIZATION

The purpose of this study is:

  1. To identify those parameters and policy issues to be considered in connection with proposals to transfer federal, state or local government services, assets and/or functions to the private sector.
  2. The study will review the stated goals and the community impact of such transfers, and identify strategies to ensure transparency, accountability, and preservation of the common good.

The League of Women Voters of San Francisco held meetings in March and April to discuss issues raised by the Privatization Study. The first two meetings focused on:

  1. The basics of Privatization, including examples of successes and failures
  2. The criteria that should be weighed when considering transferring government services, assets, and/or functions to the private sector, and under which conditions privatization should not be an option.

We will provide updates after the information collected at the study groups has been analyzed.
